Camping at Saddle Mountain Overlook
Forest Road 611 from Highway 67 takes you to Forest Road 610, which is what you take rest of the way to Saddle Mountain Overlook. The entire distance is 16.5 miles over a well-packed, but bumpy road that is still suitable for any vehicle. It’s not something for motorhomes or trailers because the bumps will shake just about everything you have inside. It’s better for tent campers or rooftop tents.
Once there, you can take a very short hike to the canyon rim for a gorgeous view. There is also a two-mile hike to Point Imperial for another grand view.
Even though there is a lack of previously-used campsites here, you’ll find yourself not wanting to leave because of the charm of the wilderness and the sense of being miles away from civilization. Make sure to bring plenty of food and water to help you stay up to the 14 day maximum.
