Camping on the East Side of Highway 67

Forest Road 22 heads west from Highway 67 and then branches off into a myriad of other forest roads. Dispersed camping is allowed on all of these roads as long as you camp in previously-used sites and drive no more than 30 feet from the side of the road.

This area of the forest has fewer previously-used campsites than in the South Rim of the forest, but they’re spaced further apart which makes more seclusion and peace. This area also has more wildlife, including free roaming Wood Bison.

There is small section of Forest Road 22, about 1,500 feet in length, coming closest to Demotte Campground, that is off-limits to camping due to Kaibab’s rule prohibiting camping within one mile from a developed campground. But that’s the only area off-limits to dispersed camping.
