Camping Along Sitting Bull Falls Road

There are perhaps four previously-used campsites along this road that are allowed for camping according to Lincoln National Forest policies as well as indicators on its Motor Vehicle Use Map (see Download below).

The map depicted above shows where these sites are. Dispersed camping is allowed along Forest Road 227, the spur road that branches off right inside the forest boundary.

Keep in mind that the forest’s Motor Vehicle Use Map also says that dispersed camping is allowed no more than 300 feet from the side of the road, hence you are allowed to drive off the road even in places where there is no previously-used campsite, as long as you don’t do damage to any of the native agave plants and trees.

There is a sign at the entrance to this area saying, “Daily Fee Required”. But this is with respect to day-use activities at the parking lot, picnic area, and trailhead at the end of the road. Dispersed camping does not incur a fee. If in doubt, an Interagency Pass will always negate day-use fees, and if you’re still in doubt, the day use fee is just $5.00 paid at the end of the road.
