Camping at Baca Campground
This camp was used as a Civilian Conservation Corps camp during the 1930’s and has since been a popular place for hunters. There is a nearby spring to the east that may sometimes provide water. Otherwise, it’s purely a primitive camping area.
The road into the camping area is gravel and well maintained, suitable for any vehicle. It’s a little washboarded in places, but overall just fine.
The views of the Capitan Mountains are gorgeous here, and the air is full from the scent of pines.
The campground is surrounded to the east, north, and west by private property (see map depiction above). There is a wire fence surrounding the campground.
Forest Road 57 eventually dead ends into private property, hence if you happen to down here, don’t go any further than this campground because there is no other turn around aside from that private property.
