Camping at Ojo Redondo Campground

This campground tends to remain closed for much of year due to snow and mud. It’s generally supposed to open at May 15 and close October 15, but it’s contingent on road conditions.

Otherwise when dry, the road to here is firm packed gravel and dirt, suitable for any vehicle. The best route up here is from the town of Milan, taking Zuni Canyon Road to Ojo Redundo Rd. The forest service recommends the route from the north, taking State Highway 612 past Bluewater Lake all the way to Forest Road 480, then turn east (left) and drive two miles further to the campground.

Either way, it’s free place to camp if you want to visit the Grants area or Bluewater Lake. The campground seems to be well-taken care due appearing clean. It does get crowded here during the summer, particularly on weekends. Best to get here Monday through Thursday to get a better selection of sites.
