Camping at Armijo Springs Campground

Armijo Springs Campground offers a secluded camping experience under tall Ponderosa pine. It doesn’t see many visitors, even during the high point of the summer camping crush because it’s located well off the beaten path, yet it is not too far from the town of Quemado, NM. It is nestled among Ponderosa pines and some Oak trees which provide shade and make even the hottest summer day cool and bearable. There is a natural spring nearby.

It’s a great base camp for hiking and mountain biking due to the many trails and forest roads here.

The best route here is to start in the town of Quemado, at the intersection of Highways 60 and 32, and head south for 17.7 miles until you reach the intersection with Highway 32 and Armijo Springs Rd (also known as County Road A021, and Forest Road 854). turn left (east) along Armijo Springs Road and follow this for 3.4 miles until you reach the access road into the campground (turning right).

Note, there are no trash cans here, and expect to find black bear and raccoons searching for your garbage.
