Camping at Aeroplane Mesa Campground

Aeroplane Mesa Campground is a great location for hikers and horseback riders to access the wilderness. The area is relatively open and ‘park-like’ with grass interspersed with trees.

This is a rarely-used campground that remains fairly clean. The road in (Bursum Road, State Route 159) is a long 43.3 miles (2 hours 13 minutes) to Glenwood, the nearest town with fuel. The road starts at Glenwood and is paved for 13 miles all the way through the town of Mogollon, then hard-packed dirt the rest of the way to the campground. The road is narrow and gets tight and curvy over the high point of the mountain range.

The campsites here are flanked by shady Ponderosa pine. It’s a secluded campground that offers a lot of peace and quiet. Across the road from the campground is a gravel parking lot with horse stables.
