Camping at Rio Puerco Campground
Rio Puerco is a remote primitive campground used primarily by local hunters and fishermen. It’s also popular with wildlife, with mountain lion, black bear, raccoons, frequenting this area due to the nearby Puerco River.
Seclusion is what this campground primarily offers. It’s about 13 miles from Gallina, the nearest town with supplies, and 25 miles from Bud’s Oil, in Regina, the nearest fuel station. That being said, it’s generally easy to get an open campsite here any time during the week.
Road conditions along Forest Road 103 remains firm-packed dirt suitable for any 2WD vehicle; it just gets narrow in many places with potholes. Otherwise, not bad.
