Camping at Grouse Mountain Dispersed Area

Dispersed camping is allowed all along Forest Road 403, which begins past the gate. The gate is located at the end of Forest Road 402, about 1 mile. To get there, you start at the intersection with US-16 and Forest Road 402 (Google Maps shows it as 403). Take this road about 1 mile and you will come to an intersection. Keep going straight ahead and you should see a gate, which is normally closed. You can open the gate and drive in, then close the gate behind you.

At the intersection, do not turn right, which goes into private property.

Once inside the gate, you are free to drive off the road no more than 300 feet to pick out a campsite and set up. From here, the drive into Buffalo, WY about 11.4 miles.

Note the gate remains locked from November 16 to June 16 due to weather and muddy conditions.
