Louis Lake Road, marked as Forest Road 300 on forest service maps, is a popular dispersed camping area within Shoshone National Forest. Because of the high elevation gain from Louis Lake, and the sharp switchbacks along the road, longer Class A RVs generally do not attempt this campground, however there are several bumper-pull trailers and fifth-wheel trailers that make it up here.
Forest Road 300 is located in the Shoshone National Forest. It has an elevation of around 8700 ft and numerous large dispersed campsites from which to pick. Cell service was very limited on Verizon and none on T-Mobile while we were there (August 2024). There are steep 6%+ switch backs leading up to the top of the mountain just past the Sink Canyon State Park. We did not see any Class A motorhomes during our time at the top of the mountain, likely due to their turning radius on the switchbacks.
