Chosa Campground

This campground was created by the Bureau of Land Management in cooperation with several other private contractors to create a free camping area for visitors of Carlsbad Caverns National Park and the City of Carlsbad.

The campground is large enough for dozens of full sized RVs. There are no marked sites, it’s just a large, cleared off area, with a fence. Campfires are allowed. No reservations, no permits, first-come, first-serve.

In our experience, it’s a great place for free camping, on level ground, well-packed, suitable for any vehicle. The few fire rings are placed just outside of the lot. Most campers tend to park their vehicles along the fence. It tends to get windy here, and it will blow trash around.
