Camping at James Canyon Campground

James Canyon Campground offes 6 sites along US 82 just west of Mayhill, NM. The lower elevation of 6,800′ means this small site is usable longer than most Sacramento Mountain area campgrounds when the snows begin.

The Forest Service says that RVs at 16 feet in length or smaller is suitable for the two vehicle sites, though realistically you could possibly fit a 24 foot trailer in either of them if you park your tow vehicle in the dirt parking lot. The parking lot itself could double as another RV site, but still only suitable for small trailers and motorhomes.

Campground sits on US-82 about a 1 1/2 miles west of Mayhill town center.

In our experience, the campground is clean and well taken care of. Remember to bring your own toilet paper if using the vault toilet.
