Camping at Lower Virginia Creek Primitive Campground
Known for its rustic campsites with fire rings inside a Jeffrey Pine Forest, Lower Virginia Creek Primitive Campground offers free accommodations for those seeking recreational activities at Virginia Lakes.
With 22 campsites, many of which are large enough for full-sized RVs, it’s a popular campground that’s often difficult to get into during summers and weekends. The campground is only 28 miles from the Tioga Pass entrance to Yosemite National Park, and only 15.5 miles to the town of Lee Vining.
Access into the campground starts at Virginia Lakes Rd at Highway 395, which is paved until you reach Lower 139 Campground Rd, which is firm-packed gravel, suitable for any 2WD vehicle. The road through the campground remains smooth for large, low-clearance trailers.
