Camping at Muddy Creek Dispersed Area

Access to this boondocking area starts at Crazy Woman Canyon Rd where it branches off of US-16. There is a quick right hand turn along an unnamed road that takes you to Forest Road 472 which is where all the dispersed camping is.

There’s perhaps a dozen large previously-used camping sites, each large enough for two to ten vehicles. The forest’s motor vehicle use map (see link below) states that you are allowed to create your own campsite anywhere along this road as long as its no more than 300 feet from the side of the road.

It’s called Muddy Creek Dispersed Area because Forest Road 472 roughly parallels Muddy Creek.

Forest Road 472 is largely well-traveled and packed down suitable enough for any 2WD vehicle. We don’t advise taking 2WD vehicles, or low clearance vehicles, along the other nearby roads like FR 33, 473, 463, as they’re more bumpy and rutted, and better suited for 4WD.
