Camping at Railroad Canyon Campground
Railroad Canyon Campground is a great place to spend the night before beginning a hike into the Aldo Leopold Wilderness. Situated in the Black Range Mountains, the campground is a popular portal for backcountry trips. Amenities are few and the camping is lean, however, nature seekers will appreciate the myriad of trails accessible from this campground.
The campground is located inside Gallinas Canyon, and this area is prone to flash-flooding in heavy rains. Be sure to watch the weather forecast.
There are also lots of wildlife here, namely deer, and coyotes. It’s a great place for a campfire at night to listen to owls hooting and coyotes singing.
If you come here and find all campsites taken, move on to Iron Creek Campground just an 0.8 mile east along the highway. There are 12 campsites there.
