Camping at Springtime Campground
A popular destination for hikers and horseback riders seeking to explore Apache Kid Wilderness and San Mateo Peak.
Forest Road 225 takes you past Luna Park Campground and ending at this campground about 7.7 miles up. The road is very rocky and bumpy, and generally a high-clearance vehicle is required, though it’s not uncommon to find spirited drivers piloting their motorhomes and trailers up here. 4WD is generally required because during wet weather, the road gets soft.
This is a quiet campground that rarely sees visitors due to how far up a rocky, bumpy road one must travel. If solitude is what you’re looking for, this is a great place to find it. You do have to prepare yourself by bringing in all the food, water, and supplies you’re going to need for a couple of weeks because you won’t want to drive back into town that often.
