Camping at Sunset Reef Campground

Intended as an public campground for visitors to Carlsbad Caverns National Park because the park does not offer any camping accommodations. This is a very popular campground for obvious reasons and is almost always full by the time evening comes around. There is another free BLM campground at Chosa Campground (see link below), which is larger but offers no amenities aside from a trash dumpster.

As small and tightly packed in this campground can get, it still offers beautiful views of the Guadalupe Mountains and never seems to deny a good sunset in the evening. This campground can get noisy around the evening because families bring their kids here. Quiet hours run from 10:00pm to 7:00am, but you will still hear generators running in that time when weather gets hot.

The six tent sites are perfect for campers with SUVs, cars, or motorcycles.

Although the maximum stay here is only 5 days, it’s enough for people visiting Carlsbad Caverns. If you need more time, there’s always Chosa Campground.
