Camping at Tajique Campground
There are two dispersed campsites large enough for full-sized RVs located up the road, one 0.1 mile, just after the bridge on the east side of the road, and the other at 0.5 mile up on the same side. Even though it’s clear these two sites are often used, the Motor Vehicle Use Map indicates that dispersed camping is not allowed along this section of Forest Road 55 (County Road A013 on Google Maps). Refer to Downloads below to see the Motor Vehicle Use Map for the Manzano Division.
Otherwise, Tajique Campground, pronounced “Tah-HEE-key”, offers a lot of wildlife viewing, particularly with deer. There are bear-proof trash-cans, indicating that black bear frequent here.
This campground offers a lot of seclusion, with very few campers ever sighted here, if any. Even on weekends, you can get a site here and may even find yourself all alone.
