Canyon Creek Road, Meadowlark Lake, WY
Canyon Creek Road is a popular boondocking area within Bighorn National Forest, about 10.5 miles east of Meadowlark Lake, and about 40 miles west of Buffalo, WY. The name "Canyon Creek Road" primarily refers to Forest Road 25, which branches off of Forest Road 440 along the south side of US-16, right at the Washakie County line. Look for brown signs marking the turn off for "Canyon Creek Road".
Blue Heron River Access, Hamburg, CA
Blue Heron River Access is a free, dispersed camping area and river access site offered by Klamath National Forest. Limited shade is available for a few dispersed campers. RV's and trailers are an easy fit. There are no facilities but an information board has current info on campfire permits and fire restrictions for the area.
Brown Bear River Access, Horse Creek, CA
Brown Bear River Access is a free, developed campground and river access site offered by Klamath National Forest. There are no defined campsites here, it's purely dispersed camping. There's perhaps room for four to six vehicles, depending on size. There are at least a few sites that can hold full-sized RVs.
Gottville River Access, Yreka, CA
Gottville River Access is a free, developed campground offered by Klamath National Forest. It's primarily used as a launch point for river rafters and kayakers. It's a small campground with room for only cars, vans, and pickup truck campers. Trailers and motorhomes will not fit here. Even at that, there's only room for a two or three vehicles tops.
Skeahan Bar River Access, Yreka, CA
Skeahan Bar River Access is a free, boondocking area offered by Klamath National Forest. It's primarily a launch point for river rafters and kayakers, but has a wide, flat area where dispersed camping is allowed. There are some picnic tables, but otherwise no marked campsites. Full sized RVs can easily fit into this camp.
Bridge Flat Campground, Fort Jones, CA
Bridge Flat Campground is a free, dispersed campground operated by Klamath National Forest. This was at one time a developed campground with picnic tables and fire rings, but they have since been removed. There is room for large RVs here, but the campground itself is small.
Red Bank Campground, Forks of Salmon, CA
Red Bank Campground is a free, developed campground offered by Klamath National Forest. With five (5) campsites, it's small, and the sites are also small, suitable only for cars, vans, and pickup truck campers. Small trailers under 20 feet may be okay. Picnic tables, fire rings, and vault toilet are on site.
Mulebridge Campground, Etna, CA
Mulebridge Campground is a free, developed campground offered by Klamath National Forest. It has four campsites on the North Fork of the Salmon River, and is located at the trailhead for the North Fork trail. There is no garbage service at this campground.
Grouse Mountain Dispersed Camping, Buffalo, WY
This is a free, dispersed camping area within Bighorn National Forest, located near Grouse Mountain. It's located along Forest Road 402 (marked as "403" on Google Maps). It's a just a grassy area with no amenities. According to the Motor Vehicle Use Map for Bighorn National Forest, you are allowed to camp up to 300 feet from the side of the road.
